Scott: Waltz of the Diddles

for Tuba and Piano

Grade: Advanced

Raymond Scott was a pianist, composer, and bandleader known for the idiosyncratic writing style he called “descriptive jazz”. His compositions tend to have evocative and comedic titles like "New Year's Eve in a Haunted House" or "Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals", and given the frenetic energy and animated quality of his music, it’s no wonder that it has been licensed for use in hundreds of cartoons since the 1940s. Waltz of the Diddles was originally recorded by Raymond Scott and the Secret 7 on their 1959 album The Unexpected, and a recording of this version is available on Carol Jantsch’s 2020 album POWERHOUSE.
